Role Guidelines

Ambassador Guidelines

You are the face of GSSoC in your institution or region. Your reach determines how many builders discover their first open source opportunity.

Ambassador Mission

GSSoC Ambassadors extend the program's reach by spreading awareness, hosting events, and guiding applicants at their institutions. You are an authorised representative of GirlScript Foundation. Your communications carry the weight of the organisation — accuracy, professionalism, and integrity are not negotiable.

Ambassadors are selected for their community standing, reach, and communication skills. Your role is to bring genuine builders to GSSoC, not to artificially inflate numbers.

Referral System

Each accepted ambassador receives a unique referral code generated by the GSSoC admin team. Applicants who apply using your code are linked to you on the leaderboard. Your referral count is a key metric in your ambassador score and contributes to program-wide analytics.

How to Share

Share your referral link: /apply?ref=YOUR_CODE. Applicants who use this link are automatically tagged. You can also share the code directly and ask applicants to enter it in the application form.

Tracking

Your admin dashboard shows your referral count, updated in real time. Each valid application from your referral earns you leaderboard points according to the current points configuration.

Integrity

Only share your referral code with genuine applicants. Do not create fake applications, pressure people to apply, or offer incentives in exchange for referrals. Fraudulent referrals result in immediate disqualification from the program.

Responsibilities

Spread Awareness Accurately

Post on social media, speak in classrooms, organise campus sessions, and reach communities that may not otherwise hear about GSSoC. All communications must accurately represent the program — do not exaggerate benefits, acceptance rates, or prize values.

Support Applicants

Help applicants understand the program and application process. Assist with clarifications. Do not complete application forms on behalf of applicants or coach them to misrepresent their qualifications.

Document Your Work

Share photos, event attendance figures, and reach metrics with the GSSoC team. Ambassadors who do not submit activity reports may not receive recognition or priority in future programs.

What Ambassadors Must Not Do

  • Claim authority you do not have — including guaranteeing acceptance, promising prizes, or representing any formal partnership
  • Charge any fee to applicants for guidance, referrals, or any form of access
  • Use the GSSoC or GirlScript Foundation brand to endorse personal projects, paid services, or third-party platforms
  • Share internal program communications, unreleased decisions, or applicant data with any external party
  • Create or facilitate the creation of fake applicant accounts
